Reptiles, Fish, (also Birds including Chickens)
We will accept any reptiles, fish or birds, either as home visits or boarding with us. Sorry no spiders.
Reptiles and Snakes
Home or Away Petcare offer accommodation for your snakes and reptiles in our home. We will happily give them their food, but it is up to you to provide it. We also ask you to provide the vivarium. We will keep them on a heat pad as required. We have enjoyed our times with corn snakes and a Californian Corn Snake.
Tortoises
In 2009 we were delighted to entertain two baby tortoises. They had a daily bath, except on Sundays and went out into the garden (in their cage) during the sunny days. This was topped up with a daylight bulb when the weather wasn’t so good. We are looking forward to welcoming them back in 2010.
Fish
Usually we feed fish as a (free) add on to other pet feeding. We are happy to feed fish on a visit and if you have a small tank/bowl and want us to house them, we can usually accommodate this.
Birds
We have enjoyed the visit of various birds to our home. Mango, the Sun Conure was very noisy, but a real little star. On his first visit, he was as quiet as a church mouse while his owner constructed his cage. He was just about to leave when Mango decided to squawk. And Mango would squawk at regular intervals. He wouldn’t squawk if he was left to fly around. And at bedtime he would take himself off to bed. When he was scared he would hide in his house or in Mel’s jumper. For some reason he was scared of David! We have also had fun with Cockatiels and Budgies. The cockatiels liked to sit on David’s head and also on the top of the laptop. See our blog page for more parrot stories.
Chickens
We don’t have chickens at home but we will come to yours. Some of our customers, with enclosed cages, only need one visit a day. We will also do the morning and evening visits for chickens. We really enjoy the welcome sounds of the chickens when they greet us.
Snails
Sadly we recently lost Alfie, our prize winning (most unusual pet at the Stoke Charity Pet Show 2009) giant African Land Snail. He had been with us for over seven years and brought us much joy. We will be pleased to look after and handle your snail.
