I have always wanted to work with animals. When I left school the opportunities were
not as they are these days, you could be a vet or a veterinarian nurse. My mum put
me off being both, I remember her words very well “you would be useless, you would
cry every time an animal had to be put down and you could never cut an animal open!”
Maybe she was right. The importance of getting a job became more important than
a dream so I became a British Telecom Telephonist! But I still had my bunnies and
When I got married my husband had to take me a budgie and five bunnies. Then came
the Cocker Spaniel who was my baby, he was a lovely little fella, very little brain
but totally devoted to me and me to him. Eventually babies came along, so I could
be a stay at home mum I became a child minder. The natural progression was to get
a school job, which has filled the last four and a half years. But the wish to work
with animals always stayed. This was brought to a head in 2007 when we took our daughter
to Sparsholt College to have a look around the Animal Management area. Wow ! what
I would do to be her age with all the wonderful opportunities she has ahead of her.
The idea of a petcare company appealed to me but I kept thinking no not yet then
one Saturday morning I thought why not, lets give it a go, so here we are. The children
are now of the age to help. My aim is to give a good, friendly and useful service
and do the job I’ve always wanted to do. My biggest passion is horses unfortunately
I don’t get to ride very much any more, the cost and finding somewhere to ride. Their
power, grace and innocence of their big brown eyes just melt my heart. I was very
lucky when I was in my early twenties to look after a horse. I could ride him whenever
I wanted to I Just had to muck him out, I enjoyed every minute. I will take care
of any animal, bird or reptile (but sorry no spiders! Yes I know they are animals
but I just can’t bear them).
Since then I have attended a pet first aid course at Sparsholt College and have completed
level 3 of my City and Guilds in Dog Grooming at Chichester College.
When you can’t care for your pets let me, it would be my pleasure.
